How the scheme works
The Home Energy Scotland grant is Scotland’s main funding scheme for warmer, more energy efficient homes, and the main heat pump grant Scotland offers homeowners. It gives you a grant, an interest-free loan, or both, towards an air source heat pump, insulation, windows and doors, and heating upgrades. Three organisations are involved, and each has a different role.
Sets the grant and loan amounts and the yearly budget. The scheme has a £49.5 million capital budget for 2026–27.
Delivered by Energy Saving Trust. Gives free advice, assesses your application, issues your written offer and pays the funding to you.
Surveys your home, provides the itemised quote for your application, installs to MCS and TrustMark standards and supplies the certificates you need to claim.
One application can cover several improvements, from a heat pump to insulation.
H&R Energy Solutions is an independent installer. We are not part of Home Energy Scotland, Energy Saving Trust or the Scottish Government. Our funding check is free, with no obligation.
Funding options
Heat pumps and energy efficiency improvements are funded in different ways. The grant never needs to be repaid, and the interest-free loan is always optional.
Choose the type of improvement, then move the slider to match your quote.
Estimate only, assuming you take the full loan. Replacement heat pumps get a loan only, and your funding is confirmed in a written offer from Home Energy Scotland.

Loft, cavity, solid wall and underfloor insulation keeps heat in, and the grant can cover up to 75% of the cost.
Check my insulation fundingEPC recommendation. Each energy efficiency measure must be recommended on your Energy Performance Certificate.
Loft and cavity first. If your EPC recommends them, they must be installed before other improvements are funded.
Certified installers. MCS for heat pumps, and TrustMark for solid wall, underfloor, flat roof and room-in-roof insulation.
Storage heaters. You need evidence a heat pump isn't suitable, from an MCS installer or an EPC showing you live in a flat.
Minimum application. Your total funding request must be at least £500.
Not funded: spray foam insulation, replacing existing double, triple or secondary glazing, and work already funded by another scheme.
Eligibility
The Grant and Loan is open to owner-occupiers across Scotland. These are the main rules.
Homes in remote rural, island and off-gas accessible rural areas get an extra £1,500 grant on heat pumps and on energy efficiency. It is based on the Scottish Government’s Urban Rural Classification and checked by postcode.
The 0% interest loan
The loan is optional and covers the cost the grant doesn’t. Repayments start after your first payment that includes loan funds.
Maximum repayment term
Based on the £4,500 loan plus the fee, repaid over 60 months. Your exact repayments are set out in your loan agreement.
