Grants and finance for your home energy upgrade

There is more than one way to pay for a heat pump, solar panels, a battery or insulation. Government grants cut thousands off the price and are never repaid. Interest-free and monthly finance spread what is left. We check every route you qualify for before you commit to anything.

Your options

Four ways to pay for your energy upgrade

Most homeowners use more than one. A grant usually comes first, then a loan or finance covers whatever is left. Here is what each one means.

Government grant

Money off the price of your installation from a government scheme. It is paid to us, not to you, and you never repay it.

Never repaidWe apply for you

Interest-free loan

In Scotland, Home Energy Scotland can add an optional 0% interest loan on top of your grant, repaid over several years.

No interestScotland only

Monthly finance

A loan or payment plan through Hometree or Phoenix that spreads the cost into fixed monthly payments.

Interest appliesSubject to status

Paying upfront

Pay the balance after your installation. Heat pumps, solar and batteries are VAT-free until 31 March 2027.

Where you live

Funding depends on where your home is

Scotland and England & Wales run completely different grant schemes. We work in both, so start with the one that covers your property.

Scotland

Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan

Scotland has the most generous package in the UK: a grant that is never repaid, plus an optional interest-free loan for the rest. Rural and island homes can get more.

See Scottish funding

England & Wales

Boiler Upgrade Scheme and finance

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme takes a fixed amount off your heat pump quote. For solar, batteries and the balance, you have two finance partners to choose between.

Not sure, or somewhere else in the UK? We don’t currently install in Northern Ireland. Call us on 0141 739 3923 and we will point you in the right direction.

A grant is money off your installation that you never repay. Finance is borrowing: you receive the money or the equipment now and repay it monthly, usually with interest. Most customers use a grant first and then finance only the balance, if anything.

No. Finance is always optional. You can pay the balance upfront after your installation, and we will quote both ways so you can compare.

It depends on where you live. In Scotland it is the Home Energy Scotland Grant, worth up to £7,500 towards a heat pump, with an optional interest-free loan. In England and Wales it is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, worth £7,500, or £9,000 when replacing an oil or LPG boiler.

The heat pump grants are not. There is no income limit and you do not need to be on benefits. Some other schemes do have conditions, and we will tell you which apply to your home.

No. As an MCS-certified installer we apply on your behalf. In England and Wales, Ofgem emails you to confirm you agree to the application, and you need to reply within 14 days.

Yes, and most people do. The grant comes off your quote first, then finance covers whatever is left. That means you borrow less and pay less interest.

No. Heat pumps, solar panels and batteries installed in homes in Great Britain are zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027. The grant is applied on top of that.

Use the eligibility form on the government grants or finance page that matches your property, or call us on 0141 739 3923. The check is free and there is no obligation.
